Great Things to Make with a Fairy Floss Machine at a Party
![]()
If you have a fairy floss machine at home, you may want to consider the multitude of things you can do with it at parties. Although most people shall immediately think of children’s parties here, fairy floss is actually quite a versatile substance, and works well in all sorts of applications, some of which can even be appreciated by adults.
It all begins with your fairy floss machine, of course. You typically need sugar (often caster’s sugar, but you can use whatever your machine says you should), water, and food colouring (if you want fairy floss that is not merely a generic white). Take note that you can also make flavoured candy floss. This is very easily done by using additives such as flavoured oils for the floss production.
Now the most common application of fairy floss machines is to create candy floss cones, which are basically just clouds of fairy floss wrapped around a thin, long cone of paper. If you are catering to children—or to some older persons with very sweet teeth—you can sweeten up the offering by using something other than a simple paper cone for your candy floss holder. How about using some liquorice sticks or even some candy canes instead, for example? This way, guests get more with each candy floss cloud they get.
Syrup fairy floss bowls are also a nice idea. You can line some bowls with a few drizzles of the syrup of your choice—maple, for example—and then fill them with some shreds of candy floss. You can even drizzle a little more syrup on the bowls afterwards, and add whatever additional ingredients you like. In some places, for example, it is common to sprinkle powdered milk on the candy floss. You can add candy sprinkles, cinnamon, ground nuts, and the like. All of these add a little more complexity to the flavour.
As for the adults, you can prepare floss-sweetened cocktails for them. You can serve a drink to a friend at the bar, for example, by shaking the alcoholic solution in a shaker, placing a thin wafer of cotton candy at the bottom of his or her glass, and then pouring the cocktail into it. The wafer shall dissolve in the drink and impart an unusual, lightly sweetening flavour to the drink. This works best when you use it in shallow, clear glasses, such as ones for margaritas or martinis.
Finally, you can use your fairy floss machine to create candy floss to be used as toppings on your dishes. You could bake some cupcakes for the party, for example, and top them with the floss for added presentation. The same could be done with cakes. You might even create themed confections for the dessert course using the candy floss. For instance, if you are having a Christmas party, you may want to create a miniature gingerbread log cabin and use some white fairy floss as the “snow” around the cabin. The same goes for other themed or artistic confections, especially those with an “air” theme, because the floss can be used to suggest clouds. Basically, you can achieve all manner of things with fairy floss if you just let your creativity reign: you shall be sure to find yet one more interesting way of using it, besides the ones listed here.
