How To Make Sidewalk Chalk

how to make sidewalk chalk

Keep the kids busy outdoors with this easy to make sidewalk chalk. They’ll have loads of fun decorating your drive or patio, and you can simply wash it off when they’re finished. Easy and fun!

Materials:
Plaster of Paris
Water
Food colouring or powdered tempera paint
Mixing bowl and spoon
Silicone molds in whatever shape you like
Glow in the dark paint (optional)

Great mold ideas include plastic Easter eggs, silicone cupcake molds and ice cube trays!

In your mixing bowl, mix 3/4 cup water with one cup of plaster of Paris. Add several drops of food colouring, or as much tempera paint as you like to get your desired colour.

Make up several different colours in various bowls if you want more than one colour of chalk. You can also add in a few tablespoons of glow in the dark paint if you want the chalk to glow at night.

Mix it all together thoroughly, then pour into your silicone molds. Allow the chalk mixture to dry, then remove the chalk shapes from their molds. If they feel moist, allow them to dry out of the molds until they feel thoroughly dry.

For multicolour chalk, carefully pour different colours into the same mold, and swirl gently with a toothpick.
