Valentine Heart Puffs
With VALENTINES DAY less than a week away, we all know the best way to a man's heart is through his stomach - and what better way than to bake your way in with these gorgeous little puffs of heart-shaped love.
INGREDIENTS:
One punnet of strawberries (or 250gm) - all sliced vertically in half
One Puff Pastry sheet
Three Tab/Sp Cream Cheese Lemon Frosting
What you need to do:
1. Preheat oven to 200 C. Use baking paper to line a baking tray
2. The biscuits look best if you have TWO different sized hearts for layering so using Heart-shaped cookie-cutters, lay out your puff pastry and cut out your hearts. Then place on the lined baking tray.
3. Now, in order to get the lovely effect of FLAT pastry hearts, lay another sheet of baking paper over the heart cut-outs and set another baking tray upon them to hold down and keep them flat. Bake for six-eight minutes or until you see them go golden brown.
4. After allowing to cool, spread a tea/sp of cream cheese frosting on each BIG heart followed by a strawberry slice (which are the base cookies).
5. Repeat process with your smaller hearts placed over the top of the bigger hearts - also topped with the cream cheese frosting and strawberry slice. Sprinkle with icing sugar for snowy effect!!
6. To obtain the "love heart" effect of the TOP strawberries: pull the leaf out the top of strawberry, then slice it vertically (ie from top to pointy bottom). Where you pulled the leaf out, simply cut OUT a very small "V" shape - the rest of the strawberry naturally gives you the "love heart" shape
