Essential cleaning party tips
So, you threw a fun party and all your mates came, but no one stayed to help you clean up? Don’t worry; we have a few tips and tricks to lighten your post-party load.
1) Pre-Party Cleaning
Make sure you start with a clean slate. Empty your dishwasher and clean up all the pre-party prep work before your guests arrive. Your spotless home will not only impress your friends, but will make cleaning up after them much easier.
2) Keep It Minimal
You’ve heard of the phrase “less is more”, right? Stick to it when it comes to decorating your house. All those balloons, streamers and banners look good, but mean you’ll have more to pick up afterwards.
3) Smart Decorations
If you love decorating though, choose something that can be used as party favours too, such as cute name cards, flowers or colourful candy.
4) Keep It Outside
Everyone loves a good BBQ and it’s easier to clean your terrace, balcony or lawn than your carpet. So just take the party outside – apart from bathroom visits, of course.
If cleaning dishes is your worst nightmare, don’t be afraid to use disposable dish-ware. But use clear plastic instead of coloured for a more chic option.
6) Cook More
Love cooking for your guests? Line your pans with parchment paper to avoid a late-night scrubbing session.
7) Cook Less
If you don’t like cooking for a whole bunch of people, just serve finger food. The bite-sized snacks not only look good, but you won’t have to deal the usual mess. Try miniature sliders or tomato-mozzarella skewers.
8) Signature Cocktail
Stay away from a full bar, but offer wine, beer, soft drinks and one irresistible cocktail instead. The lack of options will prevent a messy bar and too many dirty glasses.
9) Clean While You Party
That doesn't sound like fun at all, but if you stay on top of the cleaning while the party is in progress, you won’t be hit with a huge mess later. Have a solution of white vinegar, dish soap and water ready – just in case.
10) After Party
All you want to do is to go to bed, but assess the situation straight after your guests have left. Things like watermarks on furniture or stains need your immediate attention. Take care of those first and then start with the dishes. And the next day you can do whatever you want without having to worry about cleaning up.
