Edible Jelly Worms For Kids

These yummy worms are sure to be a hit at your next Halloween party! They’re also perfect for birthdays, especially if you have a little one who loves disgusting, slimy things. Here’s an easy way to make realistic looking edible jelly worms for kids.

Materials:

• Pack of drinking straws with bendy tips (100)
• Tall jar or glass
• Plate
• Mixing jug

Ingredients:

• 2 packs (85g each) flavoured jelly crystals (raspberry or another dark colour)
• 2 tbsp. jelly crystals (clear)
• 1 1/2 cups boiling water (375ml)
• 1/2 cup cream (125ml)
• Chocolate biscuits (crushed to make dirt, optional)

Start by packing your straws into the tall jar or glass. You are going to be pouring the jelly into the glass, so the height of the liquid will be the length of your worms. Use as tall a glass as possible to fill the straws as much as you can!

Place your jelly crystals and clear gelatin in the mixing jug and add the boiling water, stirring until the crystals have dissolved.

Add the cream and whisk together.

Place the jar of straws on a plate (to catch spills) and fill the jar with the liquid jelly mix. It should seep up into the straws, but if they try to pop up, just gently push them down again.

Place your jar of jelly-filled straws in the fridge overnight.

Once the worms have set (the next day), lay each straw on a piece of wax paper or tin foil and gently squeeze one end of the straw, moving your fingers up the length of the straw to squeeze out the worms. You may want to run the straw under warm water for a few seconds first, but not for too long or the worm will melt.

Once you’ve removed the wiggly ‘worms’ from their straws, place them on a plate full of crushed chocolate biscuit crumbs, and have fun watching your kids’ faces when you offer them a snack!
